“As the Hills and Sky Roll By”
The Palouse, South Eastern Washington

In my last posting, I used a long exposure to blur the clouds in the image. In this image I let the camera do the work as I panned the camera along the rolling hills to create the blur. I saw clear contrasts between the light and shadows on the rolling hills and the white clouds and the blue sky above. In addition, I was gifted the contrasting orange-brown color of the hills against the blue color of the sky. Together they all combined for a nice abstract.

I am yearning for the Palouse!

Cherry Trees – Heather Heights Orchard

Color, Color, Color is everywhere I turn.  Greens, yellows, oranges, reds. and even a little brown fill my eyes.  It looks like an abstract painting.  My mind opens up for creative possibilities.  Here is one:

Need a Little Brightness!

Chihuly Museum of Glass, Seattle, WA

It is a dreary winter day today.  I needed a little brightness and whimsey.  I looked to the brilliant display of Chihuly glass at the Seattle Museum of Glass.  To add a little more energy, here is a 9-image vertical pan combined into a single image.  Let your imagination flow!

Sagebrush Swirl

As I look at things, an urge to play sometimes comes over me.  I couldn’t resist, the devil made me do it. I simply did a slow shutter speed circular swirl to capture this interesting abstract.  I tend to see these abstracts when I notice an object with at clear center point and things radiation out from the center.  This sagebrush provided an interesting opportunity.  The following is the sagebrush from a normal perspective.

Just Trying Something Different

Grass Clump Abstract

Walking along I spotted this interesting clump of grass.  I immediately thought that it would make a great subject for a hand-held circular pan.  It did.  Sometimes things just pop out in front of me.  These usually turn out to be some of my favorite images.

For reference, below is the grass clump with out the pan.  I like the abstract better.

More Fallen Cherry Blossoms – New Perspectives

Fallen cherry blossoms covered the ground beneath the trees.  I was able to get a few images before the lawn mowing gang cut the grass and swept away the beautiful blooms.  The past few weeks are typically my favorite weeks in the garden each year.  For a few days we are lucky to have the flowering pears, flowering plum, flowering crab apple, and flowering cherries all in bloom at the same time. It is peaceful and beautiful in the garden.

The image below is a new perspective using multiple exposures while zooming out.

Bamboo With a Different Perspective

I rounded a corner and saw a massive wall of bamboo.  It was just waiting there for someone to take a vertical pan.  So I did…

Most of the time I use pans and moving multiple exposures to get my creative juices flowing.  They break up moments where I become transfixed just searching for an image to capture rather than waiting for an image to come to me.  This time the pan just appeared.  I did not even take a normal image.
