Redbuds for J. Charles

“Blooming Redbuds”
Heatherwood Woodland Garden

The woodland is coming to life with the blooming redbuds and the new understory that we have been planting during the last two years. It will take 3-5 years for trees to get large enough and the understory to fill in to be able to start to get the feeling that we are walking through a woodland. In the meantime we will enjoy the blooming young trees and understory highlights and dream what it will be in the years ahead. Patience! Patience! Patience!

Ah, red buds. My favorites of favorites. I first noticed red buds in Virginia in the ’90s. Driving thru the rural countryside, I noticed from blocks away a bare tree with clusters of bright red BB sized buds that shouted NOTICE ME and I did! I was so amazed at the color contrast of the dull branches v. the bright red buds that within a few weeks would burst into a “a flaming red torch”. Wow is all I could say. I have been hooked on them ever since. Mother Nature never ceases to amaze.

Karl, you have done an amazing job of encompassing a wide variety of species that complement each other and provide a kaleidoscope of year round color. . Your garden is truly a blessing where one can forget their troubles, meditate and attempt to find the true meaning of life.

    Well done my friend,
    J Charles

Thanks Jack! The Virginia countryside is absolutely beautiful when the redbuds and dogwoods come out together. The memories of driving through the rural areas will always be with me.
