Framed

“The San Remo”
Upper West Side, New York City

Walking in Central Park, I looked up and saw the San Remo apartment complex framed between the trees in the Park. What a cozy little place to live. Apartment sizes are as large as 7,500 sq. ft. Prices are typically between $2,500-$3,500 per sq. ft. That is a little steep, but it does include use of the 1.32 sq. mile Central Park with all of its gardeners.

Great Way to End the Day!

“Empire State Building”
New York City

What a way to end a great day in New York gazing up at the Empire State Building! During our recent trip to New York, the hotel where we stayed had a roof top lounge. Due to Covid restrictions, the lounge was closed for service. However, it was open for visitors to go up and sit. So, we really took advantage of it. Each morning we would grab a “to go” breakfast and take it up to the lounge to start our day. In the evenings, we would grab a bottle of wine, go up and enjoy the city lights. This night, a fog permeated the tops of the tallest buildings. What a feeling!!!

Peace

“Mother Teresa and Mahatma Gandhi Mural by Eduardo Korbra”
New York City

I was walking along the Highline in New York on a quiet drizzly morning admiring the wonderful landscape design on the old railroad tracks. I looked up and was stopped dead in my tracks when I saw this huge mural painted on the side of a nearby building. I stood frozen for minutes, just gazing, admiring the art, and contemplating how much these two people have given to the world. In our troubled world today, why can’t we all take a lesson from these two and make it a better place to live.

Never Forget

“9/11 Memorial”
New York City

Twenty years have passed since the infamous attack on the American Nation. The memorial pays tribute to the 2,983 people who lost their lives in the 2001 and 1993 terrorist attacks. We must never forget those who were lost as well as the families and friends whose lives were impacted by the lost ones.

We must never forget about the terrorist events themselves. But we must also look beyond the events and search out the root causes that triggered them. Only by addressing and resolving the root causes will we be able to stop such events from occurring again in the future.

NYC: Rockefeller Center

Skyscrapers amaze me.  Heights scare me.  I imagine what kind of person it takes to work on these structures.  My knees shake and start to buckle.  Looking straight up for me is also difficult.  When I raise my camera to take a photo like this, I feel like I am going to fall over backwards.  I need to work on this!

NYC Reflection

This year we will miss joining our friends on our almost annual spring trip to New York City.  Our thoughts will we be with them as they make the trip without us.  I am very thankful for the many trips that we have made together and look forward to many more in the future.

This image was taken on our trip last spring.  I recall walking down the street, looking up and seeing interesting reflections.  I lingered back and worked this image until I got the reflections to line up with the windows.  It took a bit of time and my wife and friends were several blocks ahead egging me on to catch-up.  The delay was worth it.

Being Watched

130726_Being Watched by Karl G. Graf. Standing in line in New York City’s Times Square waiting to purchase theater tickets, I looked up and saw this HUGE eye looking down on me.  What an eerie feeling!!!  Look close and you can see  the billboard’s display segments.

I always find something interesting when I walk down the streets of NYC!  I constantly looking up, down, side to side, and back and forward.

Window “Shooting”

130412_NYC_Shoes#1 by Karl G. Graf.

Many, many times I see something interesting, then just walk by.  Afterwards I kick myself for not taking the time to explore and shoot.  Walking down a street in NYC, my good friend Doc and I spotted these fashion shoes and stopped in our tracks.  Our wives patiently waited as we took photographs.  Something is wrong with this picture … the usual scenario is the reverse.

Even though the background was in red, I visualized this in B&W when I took the image.  I worked the image to try to capture the American Flag reflecting in the store window.
