A Blue Sky Afternoon

Cherry Allee & Neighbor’s Pasture
Heatherwood Spring

With all the turmoil surrounding us, it is important to step back and reflect on what is right about the world. What is better to be thankful for than a peaceful sunny late afternoon with a blue sky above. This is just the spot to relax and enjoy the day and nature’s landscape surrounding our home. Soon the blossoms of the Pink Flair cherries will fall. Leaves of the cherries and birches and oaks below will emerge. A little later, the planting bed between the cherries will be full of colorful perennials. Horses will be grazing in the pasture. You will find us sitting on the rocks dangling our feet amongst the flowers.

Spring Color #4

Pink Flair Cherries in Late Afternoon
Heatherwood Spring

Nothing is more beautiful than late afternoon sunshine raking across our garden as a last hurrah on a cloudy day. Flowering cherries are the main subject again in our spring landscape. Eight Pink Flair cherries form an allee border for our perennial garden. As the trees mature, they will form a wall of color along the garden hillside.

These trees are a haven for spring nesting. Last year, I counted around a dozen nests. Robins are constantly fluttering about building new nests. Soon the allee will become a hatchery.

Eight Is Enough

“Pink Flair Cherries”
Heatherwood Cherry Allee

Eight Pink Flair Cherries are enough to provide a border for Heatherwood’s Cherry Allee. The Pink Flairs break out in bloom shortly after the Akebono cherries in our spring garden. They, along with the yellow twig dogwoods planted between, frame our “Bright and Shiny” perennial bed. Spring is well on its way!
